Animal Farm is a novel written by George Orwell and published in 1964. The book is a fable about how Stalin’s regime corrupts socialism. This story tells us the adventures of animals during their stay at the Manor Farm. Mainly where a group of animals expels the tyrannical humans and creates a system of their own government that becomes another brutal tyranny.
It
starts when Old Major had had a strange dream and wanted to communicate to all
animals, calling a meeting in the main barn where everyone was present, from
the smallest to the oldest. Old Major introduced the thoughts of rebellion in
the farm, since for a long time they were living in slavery. As Old Major said,
the animals of the Manor farm did not know the meaning of freedom, their lives
were miserable and they worked hard for Mr. Jones without having any benefit,
they also received abuse, often they did not eat and so on.

After the death of Old Major especially after the meeting, the animals began to have a new mentality, they were aware that they needed a great change if they wanted to live happily, that is why they decided to organize a rebellion, first they wanted to expel Mr. Jones and his men. It was their first victory.

From that
moment the farm would begin a new stage, with its own system of government,
however, they needed someone as a leader who can organize them. In that case, the
work of teaching and organizing the others fell naturally upon the pigs who
were generally recognized as being the cleverest of the animals. Among the pings
were two young boars, Snowball and Napoleon.

Napoleon was a large, rather fierce-looking Berkshire boar, not much talker but with a reputation for getting his own way. Snowball was more vivacious pig than Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive, but was not considered to have the same depth of character. All the other pigs were porkers, the best known among them was a small fat pig named Squealer, he was a brilliant talker, and when he was arguing some difficult point, he had a way of skipping from side to side and whisking his tail, which was somehow very persuasive.

These three, taking into account the Old Major’s teachings; they elaborated a complete system of thoughts, which they called Animalism. In addition, the pigs reduced the principles of animalism in seven commandments, which would be written on the wall; they would form an unalterable law by which all the animals on Animal Farm must live forever after.

The
following months were prosperous for the animals; they had good crops and worked
for themselves, however one day everything began to change. Soon, the animals
noticed that the food ration for one was decreasing and the main beneficiaries
of almost all the crops were the pigs, nevertheless, they were convinced with
the arguments of Napoleon and Squealer.

In
this case we can see clearly that authoritarian power was emerging on the farm,
since some time later the pigs also were adopting the customs of humans such as
the use of whips, they slept in the beds, dressed as humans, drank beer and
they walked on two legs.

Time later
the pigs began to negotiate with the owners of other farms; also, they changed the
commandments according to their interests until finally under the Napoleon
dictatorship, a single commandment is concreted:
ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE
EQUAL THAN OTHERS

Evidently,
George Orwell did a good job, represented through animals, the Soviet regime
and its brutal tyranny, which is evidenced in the characters. It also shows us
the struggle of a people (the farm) against corruption, slavery and authoritarian
power.
